all you touch you change

All you touch you change - is a series of speculative weapons (Morley College Scholarship 2023 - 2024) that considers the alchemy of rage through connections with plants, symbols and feminine formalities.
Made through an animistic design practice with each piece made using copper and silvers finished in natural patinas with fire, water and soil - the metallic creatures are brewed by the pressure of curves, patinations and ultimate purpose in relating through body and imagined function.

Charged by Octavia Butler's speculative writing in Parable of the Sower-set in an equally apocalyptic but now not entirely fictional 2024 - the flame is an antidote for things to soften, reimagining Pyro a drug that induces hallucinogenic urges to burn, to harden amongst the dark forces at play. Fire and turning elements act as markers of time and state -  an ode to Butler's alchemical lessons of change - preserved on metal, tarnishing and distorting it whilst symbolic of disruptive, revolutionary and fertile beginnings
Grappling with survival, resistance and collective transformation, forging became a somatic hand to tend and transmute residual grief - becoming a sharp prayer forged into the metal. Reflecting on Lauren’s mirror synesthesia  (the ability to feel what others do by looking at them) - a power that is both curse and doorway - to more empathic selves buried under layers of desensitization we live under and through.  The pieces are conduit to the visceral connection between process and processing, to be mapped on the body like a constellation of protection- noticeable in the continuous connection to spirals, eyes and plants.
