Take Escstasy with Me

Take Ecstasy with Me is an installation of crafted steel mesh formed into wings and meditation on flying, vacating the here and now.
Sparked by the workshop they ran A Word for a World, at an educators retreat which explored systems of censorship, to loopholes, to collective dream mapping. Participants mapped futures beyond dynasties of destruction expanded through single words and shared synonyms into a collectively written poem.

The text offers a map of sorts built through collective dreaming, beyond a censor and into sensing otherwise. Fragments of the text are written below, inlegible to the naked eye, with the public walking over it throughout the duration of the exhibiton.

Flash photography activates the text 

legible only when activated through flash photography like a shadow of the wings above. It explores how bodies move through borders, surveillance and translation.

Taking flight here is symbolic of becoming as illustrated in Jose Munoz’s Cruising Utopia's conclusion ‘Take Ecstasy with Me’ and Elizabeth Bishop’s - Invitation to Miss Marianne Moore where they write “their queer dynamic duo would then fly over “the accidents, above the malignant movies, the taxicabs and injustices at large.” This flight is a spectacle of queer transport made lyrics where each stanza closes with the invitation to please come flying.”
